Education That Inspires Action

April marked Child Abuse Prevention Month, and The Call Services Inc. was honored to spend the month raising awareness, educating our community, and advocating for the safety and well-being of children.

One of the highlights of the month was the opportunity to speak at the UT Southwestern Pediatric Group's Child Maltreatment Event, where we presented Child Abuse: Identify, Prevent & Respond. It was a privilege to join healthcare professionals and community advocates who are equally committed to protecting children and supporting families.

Throughout our presentation, we discussed how recognizing the warning signs of abuse, understanding risk factors, and knowing how to respond can make a life-changing difference. Prevention begins with awareness, and every conversation helps create safer communities for children.

Recognizing the signs of abuse can be the first step in protecting a child. While no single sign confirms abuse, changes in behavior, unexplained injuries, fearfulness, withdrawal, or sudden shifts in emotions may indicate that a child needs help.

Understanding risk factors is an important part of preventing child abuse—but it's equally important to remember that risk factors do not determine outcomes. They simply help us recognize when children and families may benefit from additional support and resources.

If you suspect a child is being abused or neglected, don't wait. You do not need proof that abuse or neglect has occurred to make a report. If you have reasonable cause to believe a child's safety may be at risk, report your concerns. Reporting your concerns could help protect a child from further harm.
