Know the Signs & How to Help in Texas

Human trafficking can happen anywhere — including right here in Texas. It involves force, fraud, or coercion for labor or commercial sex and often goes unnoticed. Paying attention and reporting suspicious activity can save lives.

SOME RED FLAGS TO WATCH FOR:

  • Someone appears controlled by another person (no access to ID/phone, not speaking for themselves)

  • Little awareness of surroundings or inability to answer basic questions

  • Signs of malnourishment, injuries, or inappropriate clothing

  • Transported by an employer, lives where they work, or works long/unusual hours

  • Workplaces with excessive security or opaque windows

HOW TO REPORT SUSPECTED TRAFFICKING:

  • Emergency? Call 911 immediately!

  • Non-Emergency: Report online to iWatchTexas (iWatchTx.org or App)

  • National Human Trafficking Hotline: 1-888-373-7888 or text “BeFree” to 233733
